Messages holds two different things in one list. Texts go to customers over the phone line. Group chats go to teammates inside the app and never touch the phone system: no line, no carrier, no delivery receipt. The compose screen tells you which one you are writing before you type.

Before you start

  • The teammates you want have a phone number on their profile. A group chat never uses the number, but a teammate without one is missing from the picker, and with nobody to pick the picker says nobody else has a phone number on their profile.

Steps

1

Compose

Tap the compose button at the bottom of Messages. The line under the To: field reads Text Message · SMS.
2

Add the first teammate

Type their name, or tap the button beside the field to browse. The picker opens on customers; the filter at the top switches it to Team.
3

Add the second

On the second name the line under the field changes to Group Message · Team. That is the moment it stops being a text. Watch for it.
4

Write and send

The conversation appears in Messages for everyone in it.

Name it, and change who is in it

Open the conversation’s details from the top of the chat.
  • Group name is the field at the top. Leave it empty and the conversation is named after the people in it. There is no save button: it saves when you press return, or when you close the panel.
  • Add people is under the member list.
  • Remove someone, or Leave yourself, from their row in the member list. Both ask before they act.
A group cannot go below two people. With only two left, the remove and leave controls disappear rather than offering an action the engine would refuse.

Hiding a conversation, and leaving one

Swipe a conversation in the list and the button says Delete, but it deletes nothing for anyone else. It hides the conversation from your list. The confirmation says so: your team keeps the conversation, and it comes back if somebody messages it again. Leaving is the different one. Leaving takes you out of the group: you stop receiving its messages, and it does not come back on its own. Somebody has to add you again. So: hide when you are done reading it, leave when you should not be in it.

How you know it worked

  • The compose line reads Group Message · Team before you send.
  • There is no delivery tick, because there is no carrier to report one.
  • Renaming shows up on the conversation in the list, not only inside it.

If it did not work

  • A teammate is missing from the picker: add a phone number to their profile.
  • Remove and Leave are missing: the group has two people. Hide it instead.
